Already approved by many scientific researches, correct Nordic Walking technique significantly improves physical condition, health, and overall well-being. Although Nordic Walking is normally described as walking with poles, the technique is much more comprehensive and needs to be adhered to in order to realize the health benefits documented by this scientific documentation. It is critical that the principles and the characteristics of the Nordic Walking technique are clearly described and communicated worldwide.
INWA feels that communication of this message is critical as some organizations have introduced their own “techniques” which do not fulfil the original criteria of Nordic Walking and therefore should not be promoted and marketed as Nordic Walking.
In many countries the public sector and the government sanctioned institutions support the development and spreading of Nordic Walking. As such, Nordic Walking has to be promoted and instructed only by authorized organizations, their professionals and officially certified Nordic Walking instructors, who have received proper education of the correct Nordic Walking technique.

Nordic Walking UK has teamed with ASICS to offer over 2000 people the opportunity to experience Nordic walking for free this winter in a series of Nordic walking events across the country.
Hyde Park, London: 3rd December 2006
Ashton Court Estate, Bristol: 28th January 2007
Heaton Park, Manchester: 11th February
Sutton Park, Birmingham: 18th February
Holyrood Park, Edinburgh: 25th February
To make the events a success, both on the day and in terms of the huge increase in media interest generated by such events and the resultant surge in people trying Nordic walking around the country, we are working together in the following way:
ASICS is providing its marketing experience and brand strength through its new website (www.nordicwalking.asics.co.uk) and a focused media and advertising campaign. The first advert was placed with Runners World last week on their e-newsletter circulated to 120,000 subscribers. Also targeted is female lifestyle magazines, health and fitness publications, as well as the mainstream press.
Nordic Walking UK, with support from Exel, is providing 500 sets of Exel Nordic Walker Trainer poles to be used at the events for no charge. Nordic Walking UK is also working with Fitbug (www.fitbug.co.uk) to promote Nordic walking to their clients as the sport “taking walking to the next stage”, and with Santé Solutions (www.sante-solutions.co.uk) to promote Nordic walking to the health and fitness industry.
To register, www.nordicwalking.asics.co.uk where you can register online. (Please note that online registration is the only booking option at present and that people are not able to turn up and join the event “on the day”.)
